When you are in a salon you are on display while simultaneously viewing others. This creates the ambiguous experience of looking and being looked upon. For this design we used elements such as transparency, translucency, opaque spaces and objects which were linked and revealed through materials and shapes, in order to create a feeling of anticipation and curiosity.
For the construction, uniform and reflective materials were selected with soft colors that amplify everyday situations in the interior: glass, epoxy floors, etc. give a sense of unity and amplitude to the space. The requirement to use as much usable area as possible gave us the opportunity to put emphasis on regular and cubic volumes of space which were isolated on all sides of neighbouring buildings and completely exposed to
natural light.
The reception box, which is visible from the street, welcomes you immediately. A glacier-like structure dominates the space and separates the entire area into a reception, sitting area, as well as cutting and shampooing area. The cutting stations are assembled from corian, lights and mirrors. They provide a dynamic experience that combines privacy and exposure. The shampoo area is defined by a continuous bolt divider which provides an aesthetically private and relaxing space. The lighting in the salon is a combination of incandescent and fluorescent fixtures establishing flattering light levels and color balance.
Great attention was given to the design of the exterior as well. A bold freestanding sign dominates the main entrance of the salon and
blends nicely with the well-landscaped garden around it.
